"My Weekend in London" - The London Calling

London - Possibly the most diverse and different city in the whole world.

We all from time to time feel the vibes of London pulling it up, sideways, down from where we currently reside.
This weekend just gone, I gave into mine and hit "The Big City".

I am not all that knowledgable about London however, the bonus I have is I know people in London. So the hidden gems within the huge metropolis get reveled to an outsider.

I stayed within the busy hub of Shepherds Bush, where my gorgeous friend Ciara lives.

Favourite within Shepherds Bush:

Everyone will know of the main attraction in this small area, the Empire where legends have graced the stages and played there beautiful music.

(Small Clip of the BEAUTIFUL Ben Howard playing live.)

But really, Shepherds Bush to me is relatively unknown.

Favourite Hidden Foodery:

For a quiet night in with the girls, and a couple of glasses of wine. Forget the Pizza, forget the chinese, and indian food.

Hit up some Lebanese food at Al Sultan

I enjoyed cous cous, breads, houmous and lamb tangine. Incredible!

What I loved about the food hear was it was filling but not so  filling I felt like I had to explode afterwards.

Yum city.

Favourite Free Attraction:

When arriving at London, your bombarded with things to pay for; Oyster, cabs, food, drink, not mention if you have to have a hotel.

So it is a rarity that you can find a fun attraction that cost £0!

MARKETS

(Not all of them are open every day so check which ones are here).

We graced the streets of the highly popular Portobello Road. Full of vintage furs, paintings and jewellery.

Be aware that one Fridays and Saturdays, it is mega busy so stall holders take advantage of this and bump up prices, but there is an option to haggle the prices down.

For me it was free, I didn't need to buy anything but still had such a good time. Taking in the sights, smells and textures of everything that was around me.

Favourite Drink Stop:

It's hard working pounding the ground round London, so to keep our strength up we found a drinks shop which is out of this world.

The concept is different and not to everyones taste.
With a Green or Jasmin Tea base you can have a milky flavour or fruit flavour.

What makes it special is at the bottom there are jelly bits (which when the shoot up your straw make you jump) that taste of a different flavour.

We had Passionfruit with Lychee Jelly - UNREAL.

The black bits at the bottom are the jelly bits! So yummy.

Find them on, Pembridge Road - Notting Hill. Also at some other locations in London.

Favourite Base:

So I'm not a big one for clubs and night clubs. But when in the big city I embrace my inner clubber and try out different places.

Of course my recommendation will be pointless to you if you hate the music so tred with care.

A friends birthday took us to the depths of East London in Shoreditch.

Village Underground, based in a deserted Warehouse is a venue that hosts, Art, Theatre and Club Nights.

The event  that was on that evening was called PING. A new concept to me, Ping Pong tables in one section of the room, a DJ and dance floor in the other.
SO MUCH FUN.

Music Genre will be different for each event, so make sure you check whats on. We experience some great House Music with some 80's classic thrown into the mix. Again not something I would usually enjoy but it was fantastic.

Music was along a similar line to this track - LOVE IT.

Favourite Re-Charge:

After a big night out, your head is sore and loud noises are upsetting.

So re-charge your batteries with BRUNCH. So underestimated.

In Shepherds Bush - head down the road to The Hummingbird Cafe a cute little cafe that will knock your socks off with cuteness.

Divine.

Very reasonable prices. But BOOK. It is a tiny little place and really fills up quickly.

So now it is time for a goodbye.

Before I go thought, here are my must 3 apps to have when in London.

Voucher Cloud
FREE - Find local discounts and offers. A MUST if you're on a budget.
It'll be useful when you get home as well.

Tube Map - Free
Will show you the route, time, and lines you need to take when using the confusing tube.
Google Maps - Free
If your out late and the tubes have stopped use google maps to help you with the Night Buses or your walk home.
It'll help you find the small destinations that are not right there and obvious.

Above and Beyond:

My biggest recommendation for London is that your open to new things.

Everything is different and DO experience new things.

Above all else. GET AN OYSTER CARD!!

Happy Friday

Just a Lil' Loving Early Tuesday Morning.

Early Tuesday Morning!

I haven't blogged for a whole week! I think it has nearly killed me!

I really miss writing!
Alas today has been cut short so here is a quick post on some of my wonderful Favourites.

The Girls Night In!

Girls nights in are actually perfection.
Comfy clothes, snacks and make-overs.

Favourite Talking Points:

According to Amy Ferrah-Fowler this is how girly nights go...

(Apologies for the Subtitles)

But really all girls will know this this is not true.

The reality is that we don't do any of these things.

We (me and my 3 best friends) had a girly night the other night and there was an hour where we talked about Chocolate.

The the conversation moved n to an even more interesting topic of ... that night out last time.

A favourite of mine is being able to talk to friends for hours about absolutely nothing. Love my girls (here and there).

Favourite Movies:

There has to be a movie that will always make you happy.

Here are a few of mine!

Aladdin - An absolute Gem

Mean Girls - Always good for a few laughs!

Favourite Sustenance:

SO we all know after some pointless conversation and watching girly movies we all need to refresh with snacks.

Yum

Even More Yum

Only Slightly Obsessed Honest!

So now all you need to do is.... SCREAM

GIRLS NIGHTS IN FOR THE WIN!

Beauty Comes from within - but sometimes needs help.

"For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone."

- Audrey Hepburn

Oh my goodness Audrey is a goddess!
However not everyone has the luxury of perfect skin, red lips, and eyebrows so good that they will make you want to go back to bed.

So here are my musings on beauty products that you can afford, love and are beneficial to you beauty routine.

But first let me show you my make up collection.

So as you can see the majority of my make does consist of lip paint.

Favourite Essential:

I cannot live without my tinted moisturiser. I am very lucky in that I have never really had any issues with acne, I get the odd spot every now and again but generally my skin is very clear.
It is however really blotchy - I have different skin tones - which is really normal. But it does mean I need a foundation but don't need it to be really thick - hence Tinted Moisturiser.

(Image from boots.co.uk)

I can use this product but itself on a day to day basis or use as a base for other products. I love that it is moisturiser based - meaning it is great for my skin and also that it has SPF 15 so protects me from the Sun.

£11.50 No.7 Triple Protective Tinted Moisturiser

Favourite Cream:

Creams and Lotions make up at least half of my beauty regime. But people let us not forget the importance of having soft HANDS.

(Image from cathkidston.com)

£8.00 - Cath Kidston Wild Rose Hand Cream

I have a lot of love for this product. It is small enough to fit in my mini make up bag but wont run out quickly. Not to mention it smells unreal!

A little goes along way, and it makes you hands soft soft.
Don't forget your hands!!

Favourite Brand:

There is only one answer for me.
(Image from boots.com)

I have very sensitive eyes, so I have to wear hypoallergenic make up so this is one of the best and lasting brands.

It is pricey though. But what I have found is that you pay and it lasts and the quality is out of this world.

Favourite Time Saver:

I am not one for spending loads of time making my eyes look smokey, and big. Neither can I be bothered with eyeshadow much.

Benefit have now stormed in with kits were everything is the in the same little box so you save infinite amounts of rummaging time.

This is my absolute favourite.

(Image from benefitcosmetics.co.uk)

Creates wonderful brows and makes your eyes look bigger.
I cannot really explain how amazing it is but watch this video to see how wonderful it can be!

Best thing about this, it is natural look. So if you can spend time doing it daily you can have big beautiful eyes everyday!

Favourite Fancy:

So I have a problem when it comes to Lipstick and Lip Balms. I have a total of 20 balms and sticks.

So here are a few of my favourite looks.

For Megan Fox' stunning Dark Red lips wear Kate Moss for Rimmel,
107 Lasting Finish Matt by Kate Moss
£5.49

 Ahhhh Amanda Seyfried is Perfection!
Get the look by wearing Collection 2000 Lasting Colour Lipstick
Lasting Colour Lipstick - Queen of Hearts
£2.99

Katy Perry is not normally one of my favourites, however she really can work the purple look.
Try Barry M Ultra Moisturising Lip-paint.

Ultra Moisturising Lip-Paint - LP 156
£4.49

Michelle Williams, is such a beauty she can only the carry natural looking
make up. So to get her lips, use a thin lipstick.
17 at Boots, Mirror Shine is perfect for this.

£4.59

Snow is Falling all Around Me.

My goodness what a weekend for a snowboarder!

It is still snowing buckets outside! And you know something - I couldn't be happier.
I love the flakes falling from the sky, making even the ugliest and smallest place look beautiful.

(Photo by Sarah Cullum - @SarahJCullum)

So with the theme of this weekend being snow I felt it only appropriate for this blog post to be dedicated to SNOW and all its joy and short-comings.

Favourite Photo's:

Photo's of snow are so magical. Everything looks like Narnia. I love the way the snow settles of the branches of trees, foot prints are seen everywhere and the sound of walking.

So these are a few of my favourite photo's I have been over the last few days.

Big Icicles
(Photo by Jack Skett - @jackusmaracus)

Me, Kat and Loz playing in the snow.
(Photo's by Katherine Askew - @kitty_bomb)

Pigeons were even enjoying the snow.
(Photo's by moi! @catgh_xo)

Favourite Drink:

There are certain drinks and foods that are considered to be much more acceptable when it is snowing. Drinking Hot Chocolate and Tea for breakfast, lunch and dinner is simply okay.

But my choice is a hot chocolate with plenty of cream and marshmallows at about 3pm! So tasty and warm. After sledging and snowball fights it warms you up from the very ends of your toes!

(Photo by Louise Bronte - @brontelouisex)

Get that kettle on please!

Favourite Fun:

There is endless fun you can have in the snow. But my favourite involves getting very wet and very cold all at the same time. Therefore it is a real treat when I can do this.

(Image from angelreach.com)

Making Snow angels is tricky, you have to be so careful not to get your feet caught in them. This one pictured above is perfect.

Favourite Warmer:

So imagine you have been playing/walking in the snow for hours. Your fingers, toes, legs and pretty much all of your body is numb. You step through your front door and the warmth hits you.

Your hot chocolate is made so you make your way to the sitting room and flump (yes. that is a word) onto the rug by an OPEN FIRE.

To me nothing is better after being outside in the snow than sitting down by the fire taking off my mittens and my socks and feeling the warmth flush on to my bare skin.

(Image from chimney-cleaners.co.uk)

I can feel the warmth on my toes just from looking at this picture.

This is without a doubt the best bit about getting cold.

Favourite Fashions:

I think it would be impossible for me to do a post without mentioning the difficulty I face during times of snow.
What to wear on my legs, I always think tights are warmest but really are they?
How many layers can I fit under my coat and what on earth do I put on my feet?

It is inevitable that I will end up looking like a layer-lady. I wear about 7 pairs of socks, 4 jumpers and 2 gloves.

What I want to focus on is the tricky business of footwear. I have to go into work even when it snows. So finding footwear that looks respectable and practical even in the snow is so hard. Usually I can wear boots or converse hoever neither of those is practical during snow. My only real options are Walking boots, or Wellingtons.
Neither of which support a smart casual work wear rule.

So here are a few suggestions I have to solve some of the footwear issues.

1) Black Quilted Wellingtons £15 Buy them on eBay

2) Rubber Riding Boots £40 Buy them here.

3) Hunter Wellingtons £80 Buy them here

(Image from ceriselle.org)

4) Glitter Bow Wellies £14. Buy in store only.

Favourite Animal in the Snow:

To end.

This I think is my favourite thing about the snow.

Dogs go mental.

Wintertime Love

It is Snowy and Beautiful outside today!

So naturally I am sitting indoors and enjoying endless cups of tea the the wonderful @kitty_bomb (find her on Instgram and twitter).

When thinking about what to post today all I could think about what the fact that it is pay day and I wanted to spend spend spend.
So naturally this became the Fashion Favourites!

So here are a few of my fashion favourites.

Favourite Model:

Is it normal for people to have a favourite model? I am not sure. Well in any case I do! But when sitting writing about this post I have realised that this category is automatically moot. She isn't even a model!!

Nonetheless I feel that is important I introduce you to the beautiful Elle Fanning.

 (Image from hausofolive.blogspot.com)
(Image from mommyish.com)
(Image from cltreanor.blogspot.com)

Fresh faced, natural, alternative and beautiful.
I love her because she is herself whenever I have seen her, she is an aspiration for young girls (she is only 14 years old) because she is normal sized and tall!

Favourite Look and Style:

Once again I seem to have chosen a style and look that IS NOT REAL! My favourite look at the moment is from a film called Like Crazy (Watch the trailer) the character Anna has THE most beautiful style, casual vintage themes thrown in but with a hint of modern culture.

Played by Felicity Jones, Anna is a Fashion writer and blogger her style reflects the bohemian idyllic and vintage vibes of living in London.

 (Images from imdb.com)
 (Images from imdb.com)
(Images from imdb.com)

Its casual, its simple, but it is beautiful as well.
I LOVE IT.

Favourite Denim Store:

Denim is one of those items that you definitely NEED in your wardrobe. Whether you only use jean for work r whether they are you go to item for every day wear.

Personally I have lots of jeans for different occasions, going out ones, casual ones, work ones, and ones for gardening/DIY/painting.

The looks you can create. Wear with heals, smart top and blazer for a slim silhouette, wear with converse and t-shirt for a dressed down and easy going look.

SO where should you buy from? High street? Designer?
It is a massive deal buying jeans, it IS difficult to find somewhere that will fit different shapes, have different styles/colours for a good price.
So here is my personal favourite.

(Image from Topshop.com)

On this site you can choose fit and cut and get advise about size. However pop into store to see a staff member and get help with the cuts, what suits you and the fit can be different to each pair of jeans.

What I love about Topshop jeans the longevity! I have had one of my pairs for 2 years and there is only a few signs of wear and tear. For a regular wear £40 is a great value.

My choice. Kristen - High Waisted Super Skinny in ANY colour.

Favourite Place for Vintage:

So everyone loves a bit of vintage. It is a part of being a fashionista!
But finding out where to get it from can be a bit tricky if you are not a guru of the vintage.

In my time of shopping about for vintage bits I have discovered two places that never fail me. So my trusted readers you are now privilege to know some of most prize secrets.

1) Cow Vintage: (Stores in Birmingham, Nottingham, Manchester and Sheffield). They hold a wide wide range of vintage items. Priced and different levels so you are able afford something every time you go in. I have had so so many positive experiences in this store. You can even exchange your items if you change your mind (with a receipt).
Follow them on twitter and instagram... @wearecow

2) www.rokit.co.uk: A fabulous website full of vintage beauties.
What I love about this site is that you can gage the sizes better than other webpages that I have looked at.
They also carry some designer brands. Currently 25% sale is ON!

Favourites in my Wardrobe:

For this little section I have chosen 3 items that are so beautifully simple it will shock you that they are in my favourites!

JEANS!
I cannot live without my trusted Kristen jeans. They are warm, comfy and beyond any other reason they cover my bum when I bend over. No more builders bum for me!

(Image from topshop.com)

Because they go with everything at £40 they were an absolute bargain. I have two pair the blue and black and they are worn at least twice a week.

Barbra Hulanicki Dress:
When this dress originally came into stores I was not quick enough to get my hands on one, so for 3 years after I combed the internet and eBay to get one. And last year my dream came true and it has been for 3 years and will always be in my favourites!

(Image from glamourmagazines.co.uk)

With 80's Shoulder pads and a skater skirt it is perfect.
I wear it in the summer with small shorts underneath and in the winter with tights and heals.

Shoes:
These are another eBay favourite of mine.
Originally from River Island, they play a full part in my casual heal collection!

(Image from lululabella.wordpress.co.uk)

These are perfection for me - black, chunky heal, studs with a hint of chealsea boot.

Ultimately though I can only wear them on the odd occasion. Mainly because I am scared of wearing them out and they are not amazingly comfy, I can wear them for about 3 hours before I start getting sore.

Favourite Inspiration:

Again I am breaking my own rules by having 2. A classic and a modern.

Start with the modern.

Rachel Bilson. She rules my fashion fantasies. Inspired many outfits.
Sadly what I have come to realise is that no matter how I try to dress like her I will never truly be like her because she is so so tiny!

(Image from stylebistro.com)

This to me is perfection. Mixing tailoring with prom dresses with chunky biker boots.
She also started the OMBRÉ hair effect.

You cannot write a fashion blog without mentioning the great and timeless Audrey Hepburn.
She is Fashion personified.

Perfect.

"Paris is ALWAYS a good idea." Audrey Hepburn

Don't you all hate that feeling when your exhausted and you realise its Tuesday...

It is a nasty feeling. Knowing that there is 4 days left until a good lie-in.

But there is enough energy left in my fingers for a wee blog post for you lovelies.

I have been dreaming of travelling and leaving this chilly Island. My thoughts drift to my favourite holiday I have ever taken.

PARIS

Everyone loves Paris, the great love stories are written here. The Moulin Rouge, Phantom of the Opera,  Les Misérables.
We watch these and dream of there lives. Améile is what my life in Paris should be like.
We dream of going for the Fashion, the Food and the sights.
We thirst for the Champagne and stores.

So here is my own personal guide to the best bits about Paris.

Favourite Way to get There:

So, one day I was flying to Stockholm (one of my first flights) and I realised I HATE flying.
Which generally is a problem for me because I love to travel.
Maybe this is why I love Paris so much it is small haven of beauty yet I can get a train there.

Eurostar is my ultimate fave to get to Paris. With tickets from £59, and some even cheap on of deals you cannot complain!

To get the best deals sign up to the e-mail alerts to find out when the cheap deals are.
I got a £40 return last year!

Whats perfect about the Eurostar is it takes you right into the centre  of Paris and right near a good connection line on the Metro.

If it is that you'd prefer to fly then flights are about £100

Favourite Transport:

There are many ways to get around Paris. Many people do feel the need to get the Metro (the underground) wherever they go. Paris isn't like London, you can walk pretty much anywhere if you have a map it is NOT as big as London.

Metro tickets. Depending on how long your there for you can buy different tickets depending how long your there for.
Different tickets prices change all the time but range anything from £9.30-£51.10.
It is such an easy form of transport and if you get the right ticket then definitely the cheapest (bar walking).

Cabs. Cabs are difficult. If your with a group of tourists and its after the metro has shut then be careful. Cab driver know that you don't know your way around that well so can take you the long way round and charge you more.

If you are on your own, order the taxi in French and try not to talk to the cabby then they will think your a local and not take you on a random route - saving you buckets.

Favourite Eateries:

Obviously when travelling to Paris one the first things I dream about when sitting on the Eurostar, so here are my top three places to go for food.

Breakfast:
It is so expensive here but it is too gorgeous to not go. Ladurée 75 avenue des Champs-Elysées. You can order anything from Bacon to traditional croissants and pastries.
Definetly have the Hot Chocolate and scrambled eggs with Bacon. So scrummy. Enjoy walking downstairs and going into the bakery next door to buy the most beautiful Macaroons in history.

(Image from laduree.fr)

Lunch:
There are some amazing tourist deals around the place and many people would shy away from this because you CAN get ripped off but get it right and you can get it great!

Around Notré Dame there is a small winding road area which hides the cutest of restaurants. My favourite is on the corner called Cafe Panis. With omelettes, salads, and breads yummers.

Dinner:
Café Oz, 8 Boulevard Montmatre is affordable and has amazing food!
But the best thing for me about this small little village in the city is it is fully of cute cocktail bars - where happy hour is everyday!
Metro Station:  Grand Boulevards.
(If it happens to be that your hotel is round here, there is a gorgeous little bakery which is you go early they will make sandwiches for you for your day of Parisian chic).

Favourite Sleep'in:

It comes as no shock that there is shortage of cheap hotels in Paris. No Paris hotels are large light and spacious, but it is all about the characteristics and charm of the parisian hotel experience.

The smell coming out the door of this hotel is incredible. Hotel Costes, rue St-Honoré. Has an amazing pool and beautiful rooms. Reviews will tell you that the staff are rude and they don't like the english. But they are paid to do their job so that can complain all they want.

(Image from theprodicalguide.com)

For a mid range, try Hotel Bourg Tibourg, 19 rue de Bourg-Tibourg situated perfectly in the centre, this  hotel has the same character as its big sister Hotel Costes, but on a smaller scale.

Favourite Museums:

First thing to know about museums in Paris is that they ARE FREE to all tourists, so make sure you take your passports.
By law you have to visit Le Louvré, if for no other reason to see the huge and gorgeous glass pyramids. Once your in do the obligatory Da Vinci code tour of the Mona Lisa and the Last Supper paintings, ensuring that you visit the rose line. Side step all the fanatics and visit the Antiques wing, marvel at the beauty and detail of these antiques.

The underrated museum that you SHOULD visit contain breathtaking art, sculpture and has scenery that is worth seeing without going in.
Walk there from the city centre enjoy the time you spend walking and enjoy the route you take.
The Nude was my favourite exhibition.
(Image from musee-orsay.fr)

Lucien Lévy-Dhurmer (1865-1953) (Above)

Favourite Shopping:
If you have the pennies then there really is only one place for you. The Harrod's of Paris. Galerie Lafayette 40, Boulevard Haussmann you'll find all the designer brands under one roof (usually there are some really great sale pieces).
However you maybe looking for particular pieces so here are a few go to places,
For paper and pens, Styl' Honoré - Rue du Marché St Honoré. Real pens with real ink, textured paper with fabulous service from the owners Catherine and Patrick Arabian.
Underwear. We all need sexy lingerie in Paris no matter who we go with or what our relationship status is. Head to Fifi Chachnil, 26 rue Cambon. For lace, ribbons and a change to release the Joie de Vivre.
Vintage buys. What better a place to find that vintage piece than Paris. Chez Mami 73 rue Rouchechouart has the most divine things in it. But beware it is vintage with the vintage price tag.
Deisnger shoes. The secret was revealed to me buy Giséle Scanlon. Moda, 45 rue St Placide, hidden by the blacked out windows and boxes, inside you can find Marc Jacobs, Chanel and Cholë pumps all 50-60% off. Shhhh this is a great fashion secret!

Favourite Destinations:
You cannot go to Paris for the first time and not see the obvious landmarks. But here are a few tips for avoiding the rush and seeing the beautiful places.
The Tour-Eiffel probably the most famous of all the landmarks in the world. It does cost though at 14Euros it's pricey but WORTH it. This takes you up in the lift ALL the way to the top. My preference is to go at night, it is a beautiful sight. (I am however slightly bias as I was proposed to at the top! "Awwww" I hear you say.)

Sacre Coeur, an amazing church. Go and look around then eat lunch on the steps outside.
Beautiful day and night, if you do go in the evening watch out. The men selling "beer" are very dodgy - those beers probably have been messed with.
(Sacre Coeur at Night)

Another loved and missed place to sight see is "The Love Bridge" this is a gorgeous bridge where people have put locks on the bridge and as a sign of there never ending love thrown the keys into the Seine. If your with your loved on or not attach a plug as a sign of your devotion to each other.

Favourite Big Money Spender:

The Moulin Rouge - a major destination for many tourist and travellers, but beware it does cost the mega buck to go! Your looking at 150Euros minimum.

However the shows are amazing and you get a dinner included in the price.
Book before you leave the UK as there are often days where shows don't run!

Disneyland Paris - If you have children then its fine to pay this much for Disneyland £50 for an adult by themselves is a bit much. But this includes 2 parks and free entry on all rides.
Having said that. A right of passage of being an adult is losing your Disneyland virginity.
BOOK with your Eurostar tickets and your likely to get a discounted ticket!

I think it is safe to say that this was the most informative blog I have ever written.

Please comment and tell me about your experiences of Paris and what you did, what you loved, and maybe advise for my next trip!
